Dr. Heather H. Moreau, BVM&S, MRCVS
Dr. Moreau grew up ‘back east’ spending her childhood years in Pennsylvania before relocating to Massachusetts with her family. Developing a love for skiing and racing at an early age, she studied at the University of Maine, Fort Kent where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology while competing on their Nordic and Alpine Ski Teams. While at UMFK, Dr. Moreau was elected as the University’s Student Representative to the Board of Trustees for 2 years, gaining valuable skills in team leadership and communication. Dr. Moreau graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2008 on a full presidential scholarship.
In 2008 Dr. Moreau and her future husband Julian relocated to Salt Lake City due to their love of skiing and family connections. Shortly thereafter she got her start in veterinary medicine through mutual ski team friends. Dr. Moreau worked full time as a veterinary technician at a small animal practice in the SLC valley before attending veterinary school in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Moreau was accepted into the University of Edinburgh’s Royal Dick School of Veterinary Studies accelerated 4-year program in 2012. The school was founded in 1823 by Professor William Dick and is one of the oldest Veterinary Schools in the world, offering a well-rounded multi-species education. After a challenging four years studying and honing her clinical skills in and out of the classroom, Dr. Moreau was awarded the ‘Best Student in Dermatology’ award by the University at graduation in 2016.
Since graduation, Dr. Moreau has been working full time in small animal practice here in the Salt Lake Valley. Her areas of interest are dermatology, diagnostic imaging, and internal medicine. She enjoys speaking and educating both Veterinary professionals through local continuing education conferences as well as clients on a daily basis. She’s thoroughly looking forward to running her own veterinary practice where she can create a close-knit team of professionals that are here to provide the best care for your beloved pet family members.
Dr. Jennifer Carmody, DVM
We are proud to introduce our first associate veterinarian, Dr. Jennifer Carmody. Dr. Carmody grew up outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Although she started her college career with a focus on sports-medicine she quickly realized her real passion was for helping animals. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences at Marquette University before continuing on to veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin. Before joining the Canyons team she practiced at a busy Animal Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dr. Carmody is very interested in integrative medicine and loves to mix alternative therapies with her usual treatment methods. She’s completed over 300 hours of coursework in both veterinary acupuncture and veterinary chiropractic studies and is also a Certified Veterinary Medical Manipulation Practitioner.
Dr. Carmody’s interests away from work include hiking, fishing, reading, and playing volleyball. She played competitively for more than 12 years, and her college team won the national championship two years in a row! Dr. Carmody also loves to spend time with her husband, who works as a dentist. The pair plan on adopting a canine companion of their own in the very near future.
Please join us in welcoming her to CVC, we know you will love her down to earth attitude and love for animals.
Dr. Heather Oltjen, DVM
We are happy to introduce our second associate veterinarian, Dr. Heather Oltjen. Dr. Oltjen has had a love for animals for as long as she can remember. She grew up in Maryland, about an hour outside of Washington, D.C., before travelling west for college to receive her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Stanford University in 2008. After graduating, she returned east to attend veterinary school at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, completing her DVM degree in 2012. While in veterinary school Dr. Oltjen was a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society and was awarded the Quest for Excellence in Small Animal Medicine award in 2010. She was also lucky enough to meet her future husband, Ryan, who was one of her veterinary school classmates.
After graduation, the two new veterinarians moved to Salt Lake City to be close to the mountains, and still spend much of their time outside of the clinic hiking, skiing and biking whenever they can. Their lives became a little busier however (and their hiking packs a lot heavier!) in July of 2019 with the birth of their son, Connor. They also live with their two cats whom they adopted shortly after arriving in Utah, Mo and Pearl.
Dr. Oltjen has been practicing in the Salt Lake Valley for 8 years and is excited to join the team here at Canyons. Professionally, her interests include internal medicine, geriatric medicine, clinical pathology, dermatology, and preventive care. She also has a passion for public health and infectious disease epidemiology, and is currently finishing her Masters of Public Health part time.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Oljen to the CVC team, we know you will appreciate her many years of experience as well as her calm and caring demeanor.
